A Severely Damaged Tooth Might Need to be Replaced with a Dental Bridge

Dental trauma can sometimes be severe. If the event damages more than the tooth’s enamel layer and causes significant distress to the pulp or root, Drs. Napieralski, Wisniewski, and Shayota might be able to treat the problem with an emergency root canal.

However, some severe dental traumas, such as a dental avulsion, or knocked out tooth, can cause so much distress to the tooth and underlying socket that it simply can’t be treated. The tooth will need to be extracted to help alleviate the pain and prevent further complications.

If the bone structure in the area was significantly traumatized and requires significant healing time, or you are uncomfortable with the oral surgery required to install a dental implant, Dr. Napieralski, Dr. Wisniewski, and Dr. Shayota might advocate installing a dental bridge.

This is essentially a solid piece of dental work that will mimic the original tooth. It will include open crowns on each end. The dental bridge will eventually be cemented onto abutments formed out of the core of the two neighboring teeth.

When your new dental bridge is ready, you will need to return to our clinic for a brief follow up appointment. Then we will cement it into place with a very strong dental adhesive, thus completing the dental restoration.
